Teenage fast-bowling sensation Jayden Seales has been called up for two-game Test series against South Africa at home.
The 19-year-old pacer has been named in West Indies’ 17-man provisional squad for the Proteas showdown. However the list will eventually be trimmed down to 13 members on Sunday.
Nonetheless, Seales’ selection has raised some eyebrows due to his lack of cricketing experience at the senior level. The teenager has played only one first-class, three List A and six T20 games.
He rose to fame after showcasing brilliant fast-bowling capabilities during the 2020 edition of the Under-19 World Cup.
His journey in the competition quickly turned the heads as he grabbed four wickets in the tournament opener against Australia to finish at the end with 10 wickets in all.
Keon Harding, Preston McSween, Marquino Mindley and Nial Smith are the other fast-bowlers added to the cartel as net bowlers to help the squad prepare for the coming series.
WI last played Sri Lanka at home. The two-match Test series against SL ended in a draw as both sides failed to bag any win.
Currently, the Caribbean side is ranked sixth in the ICC Test ranking, with a win percentage of 33.3. South Africa are a spot below with 30% win percentage.
