County Championship: Labuschagne helps Glamorgan thump Lancashire

Glamorgan’s Marnus Labuschagne struck 63 not out to help the County Championship side reach the 188-run target, handing Lancashire their first loss of the season in the process.

Glamorgan lost only one wicket on the third day in Cardiff to chase the remaining 51 and bag another victory. Lancashire were firm favourites in the game as they had won four of the last seven matches, but Australia’s superstar Labuschagne had other plans.

He and Chris Cooke (17*) avoided playing silly shots to patiently complete the chase and upset the odds.

Luke Wood send Kiran Carlson packing early on 16 as he top-edged the ball to be caught by Lancashire skipper Dane Vilas.

Lancashire tried every artillery in their collection to continue their unbeaten streak. After failing to do much damage with fast bowling, Tom Bailey even took on off-spin when only 15 runs were left to defend.

After the game, Labuschagne told BBC: “It’s always nice to be back in the runs and even more satisfying that I could help us win the game.”

Despite the win, Glamorgan will remain fourth at the end of the ongoing round, while Lancashire will maintain their dominance as Group Three leader. Moreover, Yorkshire could creep much closer if they overwhelm Sussex in the next fixture.
